The Republican Behind the Costume.

I had someone tell me that Stephen Harper is the anti-George Bush Conservative. An ideal fiscal conservative with the right mix of Social Canadian Liberal ideals - after all, no Canadian politician is on par with the Republicans south of the border.

My first reaction was too pull the hair out of my head.

I tried my best to 'seak to understand before trying to be understood' but alas our plains were to far apart. After a quick rebuttal on my part, the conversation went downhill fast, which often happens when amateurs debate politics. The issues were lost, and thankfully- shortly thereafter, we agreed to disagree.

Trying to change the mind of someone, whose mind is already made up, is a very difficult (if not at times impossible) task. I think I'll concentrate my time on the undecideds, and those who wish to hear my point of view.

Anyway, here is a link to an article by Michael Nickerson at rabble.ca: http://rabble.ca/politics.shtml?x=45204

Michael Nickerson: Stephen Harper quipped that the NDP is “proof that the Devil lives and interferes in the affairs of men.” It's hard to imagine a Devil promoting affordable housing, education, social conscience, women's rights, gay rights, minority rights, daycare or health care.

Agreed, I would add that it's also hard to image the NDP balancing a personal cheque book, let alone a federal budget.
